Building new families can be difficult!
How Do We Know If Our Family Needs Counseling?
Divorces often result in new families being formed. It may be that one parent is now on their own with the kids; or a new partner is introduced. Sometimes two different family systems are blended through marriage. Entering into family counseling is a personal decision. If you feel like your new family is struggling in any way, speaking with a professional counselor will be beneficial.

How Does Family Counseling Work?
Family Counseling takes a holistic approach. Your counselor will look at the dynamics of school, work, home, your community and anything else unique to your family. Communication between family members is facilitated so that each person can express their feelings and be heard. Generally, sessions take place with all family members present. However, as appropriate, your counselor may meet with different combinations of family members. Families may self-refer, or, sometimes, they are referred by a professional such as a doctor or individual counselor.

How Can Family Counseling Help Us?
New family situations may cause role changes or bring to light different communication or parenting styles. This can be difficult for parents and kids alike. Family counseling can help improve communication between family members. Your counselor can help everyone talk through these changes to gain insight and understanding. Together, family members can learn new ways of communicating and interacting. This can lead to stronger relationships going forward.
