What is Family Therapy with an emphasis on "Reunification"?

Family Therapy ('Reunification') can assist a parent and child in finding common ground and improving their relationship.  Through a process of developing solutions to individual and common challenges, reunification counseling works towards a plan that will bring parents and children back together.  This goal is accomplished through individual, family and joint counseling.

How Can this type of  Family Therapy Help Myself & My Children?

Parents can become estranged from children for many different reasons - drug or alcohol abuse, child abuse, incarceration, personal choice, or alienation by the other parent.  Family Therapy ("Reunification") with everyone’s willingness, can address the reasons for the estrangement and chart a path back to healthy relationships.

How Does It Work?

Treatment begins with individual meetings with each parent.  This is followed by an individual meeting with the child(ren).  These individual meetings allow the counselor to understand each person’s strengths and challenges, as well as current and past family dynamics.  The work occurs in joint counseling with the estranged parent and child(ren), family sessions and individual sessions. If appropriate, parents and children may be referred for further individual counseling. Additionally, the parents may be referred to Co-Parenting Counseling.

Insight, common ground, and full-hearted participation can lead to new, healthy relationships.
